About Us

We are a student-run 501(c)3 nonprofit based in San Diego, California that supports students nationwide. Our team is a growing group of multilingual and academically qualified high school students who all strive to help those in need of assistance with schoolwork.

It is hard for non-English speaking parents to help their children with schoolwork. Even for those who are able to speak English, the lack of experience in the US curriculum and school system can make academic tasks difficult. We can use our own experiences as students to help out. Our mission is to help students familiarize with their school's curriculum, feel satisfied with their academic performance, and take control over their own learning. We do this by offering 30 minute or 1 hour long sessions.

Help us with this mission by getting involved!

Our Board Members:

Misa Uchiyama

President

Japanese/German

I'm a senior in high school and I moved to the US when I was 8 after living in Switzerland and Germany for 5 years. I appreciated the large amount of help I received from others at the time which is why I founded MOON CA! Other things about me: I love to paint, bake and travel with family!

Rebecca Lin

Treasurer

Mandarin

I'm currently a senior in high school and am involved in MUN and some science events. My past experience in tutoring international students in the past has been really rewarding and I look forward to working with you all! I also love music and play piano and cello. In my free time, I enjoy art and photography.

Mira Lehman

Spanish

I am in twelfth grade just generally love teaching! I coach speech and debate at several schools and teach English to Ukrainian teens. I also love Spanish and learned a lot about the language and culture on an immersion program to Spain last summer. In my free time, I love taking photos and watching BlackPink.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: My child is younger and doesn't need help with homework. Can they still sign up?

A: Yes! If you provide a book for us to read or worksheets for us to work through together, it doesn't have to be homework from school.

Q: I am not fluent in English and can not help my child with homework, but they speak English well themselves. Can they still sign up?

A: Of course! We can communicate in the language you prefer to get the session set up, and we have tutors who can help your student fully in English if that is the option they are more comfortable with.

Q: Is it a weekly commitment?

A: Most sessions are weekly but if you prefer to have more or less sessions, that is up to you and the tutor. We also offer one time sessions to work through projects, essays, or presentations. Most scheduling communication will be directly with the tutor once you are matched with one.
